#mylocalthirty

Have you heard of the “Local Thirty”? This concept was created by one of my farmer-foodie favorites—Andrea Bemis . She made a fantastic documentary in which she pledged a “month-long commitment to eating foods grown or harvested within 200 miles” of her home in Parkdale, OR.

In 2018, Andrea invited followers and friends to join her “in whatever capacity made sense for them and share their journey (#LocalThirty).” Maybe it’s one local meal a day, one local meal a week, or including at least one local ingredient everyday for a month? It’s all up to you.

I hosted #localthirty online experiences in 2019 and 2020 for my community in Upper Michigan. It was so much fun! Because of its virtual nature, you can join in on the local food fun from anywhere. I loved the connections made over local food near and far. Over the past 2 years, I’ve had over 100 participants join from coast to coast across the U.S. (and even one from France).

Anyone want to join me for a September #mylocalthirty this year? If so, follow along on my Instagram page for details including contest rules for weekly giveaways. The more you share and participate...the greater your chances are of winning!

Several past participants shared how this experience has been a “bright spot” to engage on social media and connect with others in a meaningful way (especially when connections have been challenging throughout the pandemic). We are wired for connection. And those connections are truly so important for overall health and well-being. Food is the ultimate conduit for connection! Join us! :) This 30 day local food immersion begins on September 1st!
